Lawmakers renew push on abortion insurance bill

Democratic state lawmakers are renewing a push that fell short a year ago that would require Washington insurers to pay for abortions, in addition to the maternity care they’re already mandated to provide.

They are championing House Bill 1044, better known as the Reproductive Parity Act, which is meant to ensure that existing abortion coverage be preserved once new health insurance rules come into effect in 2014 under national health care reform.

“What we’re doing is ensuring that women in Washington state can continue to enjoy the full range of reproductive rights, so they can have the freedom of choice to make decisions with their families and their doctors,” said Rep. Eileen Cody, D-West Seattle, the bill’s sponsor.

  1. I do not think it is right that our tax dollars have to pay for abortions! If the founding fathers of this nation knew what the government is doing today I believe they would turn over in their graves. Now days in America there is no excuse for an abortion. If a lady does not want a baby, there is plenty of free birth control. I believe it is wrong to make it easier for these women to kill their babies! All we are saying is that we condone it under womens rights. Someone has to speak up for the childs rights. Yes, if the person later comes to Christ, He will forgive, but the emotional impact still remains. Some scars just dont go away with forgiveness. I believe insurance should be paying for personal counceling on the emotional scars of abortion rather than pay for the abortion. I believe that would save many babies. Between that and the fact concerning all the couples that wish to adopt it would solve more problems. Christ forgives, but abortions do not make babies completely disappear. The memory of the could of been child will always remain.
