The Metropolitan Transportation Authority said it was stepping up security on its commuter rail lines due to the State Department’s worldwide terrorist alert on Friday.
The agency’s police department added extra officers and increased bag screenings at major rail hubs.
Amtrak is not stepping up their security, but are keeping their measures that they have used since 2001 to prevent attacks. This includes canine teams used for explosive and vapor wake detection, and screenings of passengers and baggage.
Amtrak also asked passengers to “remain vigilant” and report any suspicious activity to authorities.
