At least 13 people are confirmed dead with others missing as flash flooding struck across Saudi Arabia.
Deaths were reported in all parts of the country including the capital of Riyadh. The Saudi Civil Defense Authority is urging people to avoid valleys and plains. Heavy rainfall has been deluging the country since Friday. The rain is being called the heaviest to hit Saudi Arabia in 25 years.
Saudi Interior Minister Prince Mohammad Bin Nayef is attempting to coordinate efforts to rescue people trapped by the flooding. Saudi TV is showing people trapped in trees and in cars surrounded by flood waters.
King Abdullah promised that the kingdom would be working to correct construction problems that have contributed to the flash flooding. Previous flooding has killed as many as 123 people in 2009 and 10 in 2011.
Critics have said the government has failed to address issues in previous flooding.
