Spain’s Largest Region Seeks Another Bailout

Revelation 6:3-4 NCV When the Lamb opened the second seal, I heard the second living creature say, "Come!" Then another horse came out, a red one. Its rider was given power to take away peace (prosperity, rest) from the earth and to make people kill each other (butcher, slaughter, to maim violently, in streets), and he was given a big sword (assassins sword, terrorist, loud, mighty, sore afraid).

Catalonia, a region of Spain that makes up one-fifth of the nation’s economy, is requesting a new bailout of 5 billion euros to cover debts.

The news comes as Spain’s economy shrank even further according to official data from the second quarter of the year. The nation’s economy fell about .4% after the economy fell .3% in the first quarter of the year. It’s the third straight quarter where the economy has shrunk and the overall annual contraction in the second quarter on an annual basis is 1.3%.

The news fuels continued speculation that the country is going to be forced to request a full bailout.

Last month, Spain announced spending cuts and tax increases in the amount of 65 billion euros.

Spain is not the only struggling economy in the region. Members of the International Monetary Fund, the European Central Bank and the European Commission are in Spain’s neighbor of Portugal. The country is under scrutiny over actions taken under their bailout agreements. The country is expected to miss targets for deficit reduction.
