Syrian Death Toll Now Over 100,000

Matthew 24:6 You will hear of wars and rumors of wars, but see to it that you are not alarmed. Such things must happen, but the end is still to come.

United Nations Secretary General Ban Ki-Moon has reported the total number of dead in the Syrian civil war has topped 100,000.

The total is over 7,000 higher than issued last month by the UN.

Speaking in New York beside U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry, Ki-Moon called for both sides to finally strive for peace.

“The military and violent actions must be stopped by both parties and it is thus imperative to have a peace conference in Geneva as soon as possible,” he said.

In addition to the deaths, the UN is reporting that over 1.7 million Syrians have been forced to flee to other countries because of the ongoing violence. The UN admits its figures are likely underestimated because of total deaths and injuries have not been reported.

The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights said that more than 2,000 have been killed since the Muslim holy month of Ramadan began on July 10th.

Previous peace conference proposals have been hampered by conflicts between western governments, especially Russia and the U.S.
