UN Eases Ban On Selling Arms To Somalia

Revelation 6:3-4 NCV When the Lamb opened the second seal, I heard the second living creature say, "Come!" Then another horse came out, a red one. Its rider was given power to take away peace (prosperity, rest) from the earth and to make people kill each other (butcher, slaughter, to maim violently, in streets), and he was given a big sword (assassins sword, terrorist, loud, mighty, sore afraid).

The Somalian government will finally be able to purchase weapons in it’s fight against Islamic terrorists in the nation.

The United Nations Security Council announced they are partially lifting a ban on selling weapons to Somalia that has been in place since 1992. The lift will allow the country’s new government to purchase light arms to help in its battle to keep Islamic militants from taking over the country and to take back land under the control of the terrorists.

The council also voted to extend the mandate of an African Union peacekeeping force for another year.

British UN ambassador Mark Lyall Grant called the move the “right balance” saying that it would allow the government to increase it’s defense while allowing “council oversight of weapons flows into Somalia.”

The UN had been backing the Somali government in its battle against the al-Shabab terrorist group (who is affiliated with al-Qaeda.) Al-Shabab no longer controls major towns in the nation but has much of the smaller towns and rural areas. The African Union is continuing an offensive launched in 2011 to remove the terrorists from the country.
